Parody or Defamation of Character?

Parody is an interesting thing. There is a fine line between what is considered "Fair Use" for artistic reasons and what is open to litigation as a violation of copyright laws. Click Here for more information about Mattel's lawsuits against many of the following.

NOTE: Some individuals may find the contents of some Barbie parodies offensive. Many contain sexual or racial slurs. The opinions expressed on the following parodies are those of their creators and do not reflect any beliefs held by me.

One of the most interesting and thought-provoking "parody" sites I found was The Distorted Barbie. Mark Napier takes an intelligent look at popular culture and iconography... an endeavor that fails to endear him with Mattel. Sued in 1997 over his depiction of Barbie, Napier changed the site... but you can still find the old one.
